I am Lenin Velayudham, born at Villupuram Town, Tamil Nadu, India in 1951 and served in Tamilnadu Government and retired as Tahsildar.
Villupuram was earlier a part of South Arcot District. South Arcot District Chess Association was, one of the regular tournament conducting district, affiliated to Tamil Nadu State Chess Association. The prominent Chess Players like Indian National Champion RAJARAVISEKAR I.M., KAMESWARAN, State Junior Champion MANIKANDASAMY, NATARAJAN, MITHRAKANTH I.M., MURUGAN I.M., etc., were played at CUDDALORE, Head Quarter of South Arcot District. The District Association developed many beginners as Masters in Chess.
Dr. M.Balakrishnan (Late) residing at Villupuram Town was one of the main architect to form South Arcot District Chess Association at Cuddalore along with Sivaraman, Mennakshi Sundaram,, Rajangam & Ramanathan. While I am working at Collectorate, Cuddalore in 1976, myself joined as member in South Arcot District Chess Association and later elected as E.C member of the Association.
Dr.M.Balakrishnan and myself worked hard and formed Villupuram Taluk Chess Association in 1979 at Villupuram and elected as President and Secretary respectively .Then we affiliated the association to South Arcot District Chess Association. At Villupuram we conducted many tournaments and encouraged the chess game among youngsters. Players from all over Tamil Nadu have participated in Villupuram tournaments and support the association.
In 1993, the South Arcot Distrct was bifurcated and named Cuddalore and Villupuram District respectively. Then the Chess lover Dr. M. Balakrishnan had formed Villupuram District Chess Association at Villupuram and run the Association successfully and conducting regular tournaments with full hearted support of Tamil Nadu State Chess Association. I done my best to association while elected as Joint Secretary, General Secretary and Vice President in Various periods.
Dr. M. Balakrishnan(Late), Stephen Saviour, Arulmozhi, Kannan.K, Absalom, Sampath, Lenin, Sundaram, Narasimman, Balaji, Jayachandran, Rajarathinam, Omanakrishnan, Venkatesh Babu, Chandrasekaran(Principal), Venugopal, Alanday, Raja, Kannan, etc., are the main pillars for strengthening the building of Villupuram District Chess Association.
The Honorary President Subburaman(Proprietor and Managing Director of Archana Groups of Hotels&Residency) Villupuram, has supported for the growth of Villupuram District Association in many ways.
I played Chess without theoretical background. Then I came to know about the Chess rules and regulations, theories and books, I learn with pleasure and acquire some extent of knowledge in it. The support of my father E.T.Velayudham Pillai, Leader of Railway Labor Union, mother T.K Chellammal and wife L. Pushpa only make me interest in chess.
I played District Tournaments, Prestigious tournaments regularly conducted in Tamil Nadu i.e. Sri Mappillai Vinayagar Chess Tournament at Madurai, Sri Gurusamy Naidu Memorial Chess Tournament at Palani, Tamil Nadu State Chess Tournament at Rajapalayam.
Even though in Government Service and devote my service to peoples, I spare time to play chess regularly. Regular tournaments were conducted at Villupuram to develop the chess among youngsters of Villupuram District with support of Office bearers of Villupuram District Chess Association.
